A New Milford man has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge for stabbing his estranged wife while their two children were nearby in 2009. 43-year old Neil Fergus was in court yesterday and pleaded guilty under the Alford Doctrine, in which he doesn't have to admit guilt but believes there is enough evidence for a conviction, to burglary, assault and assault on an older person.
Neil Fergus stabbed Catherine Fergus three times while in the driveway of the home they once shared while their two children were in the car. He then followed the woman inside knocking down her mother.
He remains held on $1 million bond for sentencing in September. He faces up to 30 years in prison on the lesser charges.
