Congressman Chris Murphy has won the Democratic Primary and will be facing former WWE CEO Linda McMahon, who won the Republican Primary for the state's open U.S. Senate seat.
Murphy faced a primary challenge from former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz. McMahon was challenged by former 4th District Congressman Chris Shays. McMahon and Murphy are each seeking to fill the seat left vacant by the retirement of Senator Joe Lieberman at the end of the year.
The Democrat turned Independent left a Senate seat open for the second time in recent years with the 2010 retirement of Senator Chris Dodd. Dodd was succeeded by former state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal.
