A Westville Avenue man who threatened to commit suicide has died. Police have identified the man as 43-year old Matthew Godeux.
There was a nearly 2 and a half hour police standoff on Westville Avenue in Danbury near Gregory Street Tuesday night. The road was closed between Fairlawn Avenue and Chelsea Drive.
Police, the SWAT team and EMS were on the scene from around 4:15pm until around 6:45pm. Neighbors were told to stay in their homes during the standoff. A crowd that had gathered at the scene were moved back before officers made their way into the home.
When police entered the home, they found the man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
