A man trying to help a homeowner repair a propane leak was killed when the house exploded, leaving only a chimney. New Milford police say a gas explosion on Sunny Valley Road caused the house to collapse.
A LifeStar helicopterwas called to the scene on reports that there were people trapped in the house.
A 9 year old suffered burns to his legs and back. A second patient suffered burns to his right side. Anthony Fratino Jr. of New Milford was killed and his 9-year-old son, Nicholas, was injured in the explosion. John Wilkinson, who lives in the house with his wife and two sons, was injured.
A twitter user said they could feel the explosion at their home, some four miles from Sunny Valley.
Lt Larry Ash said onlookers were being kept away because asbestos particles might have been blown into the air. Pieces of rubble were scattered over a wide area. Ash says police plan to use a ``cadaver dog'' to make sure there were no human remains at the site.
There will be prayer vigil tonight in New Milford for the victims at the John Pettibone school at 6:30. There is a Facebook page set up to help the families.
