A report of a suspicious person at Patterson Town Hall on Thursday sparked fears of a possible bomb threat. Employees reported a man with a briefcase was acting suspiciously, locking himself in a restroom for a long time and then coming out without the briefcase. Some of the ceiling tiles in the drop ceiling were dislodged.
Some witness told responding authorities that the man was seen earlier in the Court building across the street where he allegedly refused to sign a visitor's log.
The Putnam County Sheriff says the man also reportedly made statements in opposition to courts and government, but no specific threat.
Bomb-sniffing dogs were brought in to check town hall and didn't come up with any hits. Vehicles were detoured around the area for four hours while the investigation continued.
The man has been identified, but his name is currently being withheld.
