A sobriety checkpoint held in Newtown last weekend nets five DUI arrests and the recovery of a stolen car. State and town police worked together at the checkpoint last Friday night and Saturday morning on Wasserman Way.
There were 6 state troopers and 9 Newtown police officers near the commuter parking lot. Motorists travelling in both directions were stopped to determine if they were driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
In addition to the five arrests, police issued more than 30 infractions for violations that ranged from not wearing a seatbelt or using a cell phone to possession of marijuana.
The five arrested for DUI are 57-year old Mark Iannucci of New Fairfield, 41-year old Damon Kimble of Sandy Hook, 40-year old Michele Mayo of Wolcott, 37-year old Daniel Pasqua of Southington and 52-year old Richard Schriefer of Monroe.
