A driver who tried to illegally pass another car on Lake Avenue in Danbury early Saturday morning was spotted by an on-duty officer headed in the opposite direction. The officer turned around only to discover that the driver crashed into a telephone pole, snapping it in half.
27-year old Donald Vergeron of Danbury crawled out of the overturned Volkswagen Jetta uninjured.
He failed a field sobriety test and was charged with driving under the influence, failure to drive right and operating without a registration. He was released on bond.
Power was out in the area for about 10 hours.
