Police: off-duty Hartford firefighter shoots man during spat

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) Hartford police say an off-duty city firefighter shot a man in the abdomen in broad daylight during an argument.

Deputy Police Chief Brian Foley says 25-year veteran firefighter Donald Brown has a permit to carry a handgun and cooperated with investigators after the shooting on Friday afternoon in the city's North End. No charges have been filed.

Authorities haven't released the victim's name. Foley says the 31-year-old man's injuries don't appear to be life-threatening. He's listed in serious but stable condition at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

Police say Brown and the victim know each other. It's not clear what they were arguing about.

Officials say Brown has been off the job on worker's compensation.
