STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) An 82-year-old Stamford woman has pleaded guilty to stealing $80,000 from a friend with medical and physical disabilities.

The Stamford Advocate reports that Dorothy Mead entered her plea to first-degree larceny and faces up to two years in prison when sentenced.

Citing Mead's age, Stamford Superior Court Judge Gary White said he may give her a suspended sentence depending on the pre-sentence report.

White says an order of restitution was granted, giving the victim or her heirs a way to retrieve the money.

Authorities say Mead used the unidentified victim's bank accounts to deposit money made from the sale of the victim's condominium, withdrew the money in cash and checks to pay credit card bills.

The thefts were not suspected until May 2008 and Mead was arrested in December 2010.
