Police kill man suspected of robbing banks in motel room

OLD SAYBROOK, Conn. (AP) Police say a man wanted in in connection with multiple bank robberies in Rhode Island and Connecticut has been shot and killed.

State Police say officers learned Saturday that a man wanted for multiple robberies was staying at a motel in Old Saybrook, Connecticut.

Officers say the suspect was wielding a weapon and they heard gunshots coming from inside the motel room.

Police say the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Richard Love of Groton, Connecticut, pointed his weapon at entering officers and ignored orders to put it down. He was shot and killed at the scene.

Officers say they found a .45 caliber handgun, loaded magazines, drug paraphernalia and about 180 bundles of heroin and suspected crack cocaine along with large amounts of cash believed to be stolen during the robberies.
