HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) A Hartford firefighter has been arrested on charges including running a drug factory.
Hartford Police Chief James Rovella said Friday the firefighter, 38-year-old Rafael Diaz, was arrested Thursday night when state and local police and FBI agents raided his Hartford home and found various drugs, a .22 pistol and $1,800 in currency.
Diaz was released without bail on charges also including drug possession, possession with intent to sell drugs and possession near a school. He has been placed on administrative leave. He is due in court on Aug. 9.
His attorney tells the Hartford Courant that Diaz has been a firefighter for 14 years and has been honored for heroism. Attorney Michael Georgetti said he couldn't immediately comment on the allegations because he hadn't seen the search warrants or police reports.
